Galloping Galway
Galway Mahler came close to being the shock of the day, if not the week, at Lingfield today. Ridden by Tabitha Worsley he was ignored by punters and started at odds of 150/1. However, he put recent form behind him in the nearly three mile handicap steeplechase. He jumped off at the front alongside Airtothethrone and the pair galloped on, jumping well and enjoying themselves. They still headed the field entering the home straight for the final time then Airtpthethrone fell at the third last fence leaving Galway Mahler in the lead. He gallantly tried to hold on over the final two fences and the run to the line, but the final 80 yards proved just too much and he was passed by the eventual winner and then on the line by one other horse. However 3rd place, beaten only a length and a half, was an excellent performance and reward for the stable's hard work and his owner's patience. Connections with Galway Mahler after his run.
